CTI PIs discovered new cell population promotes tumor progression

A team led by CTI PI Professor Xuetao Cao published a paper recently (Han et al, Cell Volume 173, Issue 3, 19 April 2018, Pages 634-648.) identified a tumor-induced new population of erythroblast-like Ter-119+ Ter-cells in the spleen of tumor-bearing mice.

They further confirm the presence of splenic artemin-positive Ter-cells in human HCC patients and show that significantly elevated serum artemin correlates with poor prognosis. They propose that Ter-cells and the secreted artemin play important roles in cancer progression with prognostic and therapeutic implications.
